About Telephone World
The Telephone World website has been in existence in one form or another since 1997. The goal of Telephone World is to have a collection of various aspects of the telephone – the telephones themselves, telephone switching equipment, the central office buildings, and of course sounds from the telephone. We wish to share what we have with people who appreciate the telephone – the strange and mysterious instrument that has been a part of our lives for well over 100 years. We appreciate visitors from all over the world, whether they’re present or former telephone employees, or just casual users of the telephone.
The site’s beginnings originated from the webmaster’s own experience and appreciation for the telephone since childhood. A lot of technological advancements have occurred from the 1970s when the webmaster was a young child to present day as an adult who appreciates the past, present and future. The days of old step by step and crossbar equipment have given way to the digital switch, cellular and Voice over IP. The technologies may have changed, but the concept still remains the same.
This is a hobby website devoted to the history of the telephone as well as present-day technological advancements. This website is not about “phreaking” or doing things you should not do with the telephone. Please do not do anything illegal or immoral. If you do, you’re on your own.
This site is undergoing a huge technology refresh in late 2020 and early 2021, after being dormant for more than 10 years. It will take a while to migrate all of the contents of the old website, and update it to what it needs to be.
So sit back and enjoy the various pages of the website. Feel free to send a comment if you have a question or wish to contribute to the contents of the website. Keep in mind that any contributions become the property of this website.
Thanks and enjoy!
