Centralized Intercept Local Telephone Company Recordings

The following are examples of centralized intercept telephone recordings. Centralized intercept typically are “generic” one-size-fits-all recordings that do not inform you of the number you dialed, just that there was a problem in completing the call and a reason why.

Generic Nortel DMS-100 Recordings

Examples of generic general error & information recordings from Nortel DMS-100 switches. These are used when the local telephone company (or even a competitive local exchange carrier) chooses to use the default recordings instead of using their own.

Call Cannot Be Completed As Dialed (Style 1 – English generic) (August 2006)

This came from a CLEC in Stafford, Virginia. Notice that this is probably the Nortel factory default for the English only language recording – as the trailer code is just a series of ones with two sets of SIT tones.

Call Cannot Be Completed As Dialed (Style 1 – English/French) (2003)

This came from attempting to call a number in Ontario Canada. Notice that this has both English and French recordings. Even the trailer codes are in both languages.

Call Cannot Be Completed As Dialed (Style 2) (1999)

This is a typical “call cannot be completed” recording from inbound call to a DMS-100 switch. I’ve heard this when dialing various local telephone companies as well as CLECs.

Please Hang Up & Try Again (November 2005)

This is a typical “off hook” recording from a DMS-100 switch. Sometimes after the recording it goes to an “off hook” alert signal, other times its reorder (as in this case). This example is from the North Pittsburgh Telephone Company.

Saipan, Northern Marianas Islands – Not In Service (April 1998)

Recording from Northern Marianas Islands (Area Code 670). Notice the 2400/2600 Hz chirp at the beginning. If this were a call that “Suped” (answer supervision) you would hear two chirps. Also notice the background hiss (analog satellite transmission?)
